Gasoline fire

A 67 year-old man in Florida tried to kill himself by dousing himself with gasoline and setting fire on himself. The result was having his skin charred all over and not death. The pain must have been so bad that he even screamed for neighbors to call 911.

Burning the bedroom

A 41 year-old man in Massachusetts tried to kill himself by setting the bedroom on fire, along with his girlfriend and her son. Fortunately, the girlfriend managed to escape with her son. Unfortunately, the man survived with burns over 85 percent of his body, which will make the rest of his life rather painful. The host of criminal charges leveled against him won't help matters.

Attempted car stabbing

A 27 year-old man in Arizona attempted suicide by affixing a sword to the steering wheel to a car and ramming the car into a wall. Instead of the sword fatally skewering him, however, the airbags deployed and bent the sword out of shape. The man only ended up getting non-fatal injuries, and his car just ended up in a swimming pool.

Breaking legs

A 25 year-old man in California jumped off the Santa Ana Bridge in an apparent attempt to kill himself. Hitting water after dropping from a great height is not much different from hitting concrete, but the result was that the man only managed to break both of his legs.

Bungled car crash

A man in Chicago tried to kill himself by ramming his car into a wall. Instead, he ended up with a wrecked car, four years in prison, and the death of a friend.

Stopped by a tree

A 14 year-old boy in China tried to kill himself by jumping out the window from the ninth-floor. However, a tree got in the way, so while he is now in a world of hurt, the encounter with the ground was not fatal.

Jumping off an overpass

A man in Texas tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with a knife and then jumping off an overpass. However, all he accomplished was to hold up a whole lot of traffic on a highway, with himself soon taken to a nearby hospital.

Disturbing the peace

A 21 year-old man in Idaho tried to commit suicide either by shooting himself with a shotgun or by having the police shoot him. However, by the time a SWAT team arrived he had yet to shoot himself, and the SWAT team used restraint and used tear gas on him instead of shooting him. The man ended up being arrested for his suicide attempt, charged with disturbing the peace.

Jupming from an overpass

A 36 year-old woman jumped into a creek from an overpass, and she didn't even indicate where she was going to jump in her suicide note. Her suicide attempt didn't work out, though, having been found and taken to a hospital after breaking multiple bones and possibly other injuries.

Jumping off a cliff

A 16 year-old girl in California jumped off a cliff with a height of about 90 feet, or about 30 meters, above the ocean. Instead of dying, however, she just ended up hurting her knee very badly.

Shooting in a coffin

A 52 year-old man tried to kill himself by shooting his brains out while inside a coffin. Although he considerately put himself in a coffin before attempting suicide, he missed, with the bullet passing through his chin and nose.

Shot at and tased

When a 24 year old woman in Wisconsin tried to kill herself by cutting her throat in the presence of police officers, she got hit by a beanbag round to her arm, which forced her knife momentarily away from her neck and must have hurt. She didn't give up, though, so another police officer tasered her, which must have hurt a whole lot more.

Pillow noose

A prisoner in Italy tried to kill himself by tearing up pillowcases and crafting them into a noose. However, prison guards stopped him before he could hang himself, and he ended up having to pay a fine for damaging the pillowcases.

Supposed gun cleaning accident

A man in Colorado, US tried to kill himself by shooting himself in the face, but he only managed to do a lot of damage to his jaw and tongue.

Attempting suicide at an airport

A passenger at Ireland's Dublin Airport tried to kill himself by slashing his wrists and hiding near a restaurant. However, he was soon found and stabilized, with no expected long-lasting effects even after losing a great deal of blood. This follows a previous suicide attempt at the airport almost exactly a year ago, where a young man jumped off a wall at the departures area. In his case, he ended up paralyzed below the neck.
